In a recent interview, Bolton dressed down Trump as little more than a property developer.
John Bolton, who served as Donald Trump's National Security Adviser from April 2018 to September 2019, has seen enough to have a firm impression about the man. And he believes that the previous president isn't particularly sharp. Or at least not as smart as he claims.
In a recent interview with the conservative French magazine Le Figaro, Bolton was asked if he thought Trump had authoritarian tendencies, following previous comments made on the campaign trail in which the GOP frontrunner stated as much.
"He does not have the intelligence! "He's a property developer, for God's sake!" Bolton stated in response.
Trump has made a habit of praising foreign leaders from countries with which the United States disagrees, boasting about receiving "beautiful letters" from North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and describing Chinese President Xi Jinping as a "very good person." However, Bolton does not place him in the same category, for the reasons stated above.
"Trump, when he has an idea, returns to it often, then becomes sidetracked and forgets about it before returning to it and acting on it. That is why leaving NATO is a realistic option. Many people believe it is simply a negotiation tactic, but I disagree," Bolton added.
